Make the Change Monday

Today’s action is about the Affordable Care Act. First, a poem to help you center yourself in this time of turmoil.

The Answer

Then what is the answer?- Not to be deluded by dreams.
To know that great civilizations have broken down into violence,
and their tyrants come, many times before.
When open violence appears, to avoid it with honor or choose
the least ugly faction; these evils are essential.
To keep one’s own integrity, be merciful and uncorrupted
and not wish for evil; and not be duped
By dreams of universal justice or happiness. These dreams will
not be fulfilled.
To know this, and know that however ugly the parts appear
the whole remains beautiful. A severed hand
Is an ugly thing and man dissevered from the earth and stars
and his history… for contemplation or in fact…
Often appears atrociously ugly. Integrity is wholeness,
the greatest beauty is
Organic wholeness, the wholeness of life and things, the divine beauty
of the universe. Love that, not man
Apart from that, or else you will share man’s pitiful confusions,
or drown in despair when his days darken.

Today, you can call Paul Ryan’s Affordable Care Act hotline number. He is taking a survey. Your voice can be heard. 1) Call (202) 225 – 3031 [edit: I’m being told the number has changed to 202-225-0600]
2) **WAIT through 40 seconds of pure dead silence suggesting you have called the Death Star. (Seriously. Don’t hang up. There’s no hold music. It’s a little odd.)
3) You will get prompted by the survey.
4) Press 2 to participate
5) Press 1 to register your support for the ACA.
There’s a spiel in there you’ll have to tolerate. I listened and rolled my eyes a lot. (Thanks to Kara’s We’re His Problem now Action Sheet for this outline.)
Go, and make the change!
