Saturday Show and Tell – a showcase of things each week that lit up my brain and fired my imagination. Enjoy!
back of the Nobel Prize for Literature
Good morning! I’m writing this post on Thursday, and I’m grinning from ear to ear about Bob Dylan winning the Nobel Prize for Literature. I’ve never been a fan of his music, but there’s no doubt in my mind he is a true poet and artist. His work is broad, beautiful, and timeless. The effect his words have had on generations is profound. If you have a chance today, I recommend spending some time reading his words.
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin’ coal
Pourin’ off of every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you
Tangled up in blue
(Tangled Up In Blue by Bob Dylan, 1974)
Madaya Mom by Marvel Comics
Marvel has a new digital comic available online for free, and it’s not your typical superhero story. Madaya Mom is the story of a mother trying to do more than survive in Syria, but to also shield her children from the ravages of war and famine. If you go to the link and put your cursor over the image below the flip-page intro, you can click through the comic. Any way to get more eyes directed on the plight of Syrians and to start a dialogue about solutions is super in my book. (I believe the art is done by Dalibor Talajic.)
For my writing friends, there is a new channel on youtube I’d like to recommend. Brandon Sanderson has uploaded twelve videos where he shares his ideas, habits, and theories of getting the writing done. If you don’t know who he is, please go look him up. You’ll see he’s well-known for prolificacy and success. They are each an hour (or so) long, making this an in-depth look rather than simply a quick dip. NaNoWriMo is hurtling toward us, and this could provide you some pre-game incentive and motivation to get it done this year!
The dialogue starts with you. What has sparked your creativity & imagination this week?
