September: Do You Have Goals?

I’m only two days and five months late for the Big Dreams Blogfest!

I signed up ages ago for this brilliant, organized idea for accountability for my writing goals, but I keep forgetting to do the posts! A big thank you to Misha Gericke  and Beth Fred for the idea and the opportunity.

I have a target of 100 rejections. That means I’m putting myself out there regularly and learning to deal with the anxiety and angst.

  • Submissions: 9
  • Rejections: 8
  • Acceptances: 1
  • Still pending: 15
  • 2016 Rejections: 30

My goal to finish writing Ferals & Blights was Nov 1st, but I’m not going to make it. I have a good reason, though. I reached the last half and realized I needed to go back and write more. I increased my target word count from 35k to 75k.

  • Edited 9 chapters
  • Butt in chair days: 14/30
  • 1k days: 8/30
  • 32,966/75,000

Clearly, I can do better on my days of writing. I thought I was doing well with this until I counted. Not even half my month was spent writing, even though I KNOW I had the laptop in front of me every day. *shakes fist at Twitter*

I also belong to a critiquing group online called For membership, I must critique one story/month, but sometimes I like to do more. The best would be 4/month.

  • 1.5/4

Because of my dysautonomia, it’s important I walk frequently. I’ve fallen behind here, as well. I would like to say that’s because I’ve been writing, but clearly the data does not support this excuse!

  • steps: 110,823
  • miles: 49.17

Whew. Okay, now that the scolding is over…

October Goals

  1. Butt In Chair count to 20 and the 1k Days to 18.
  2. Edit 8 more chapters.
  3. I have to walk more. Let’s aim for 70 miles.

The dialogue starts with you. What goals did you achieve in September?

  1. You’ve been doing well, I think.

I know what it feels like to have a word-count grow on you as you go. (I thought I was safe with book 3, only to realize I’d have to start again, and this time with triple the word count I’d gone for originally.)

    1. Thanks, Misha. Triple? Oh, wow. Yeah, it’s hard to know what’s best sometimes, isn’t it. A lot of it comes down to intuition, especially with a first book or when self-publishing. Thanks for the support, it helps!
